College Success Foundation (CSF)

College Success FoundationCollege Success Foundation (CSF) Mission Statement:  Inspire low-income students to finish high school and enter and graduate college by providing them scholarships, mentoring and support they need to succeed in life.

Brief History: For 15 years, the College Success Foundation has been providing a unique system of supports and scholarships to inspire underserved, low-income students to finish high school, graduate college, and succeed in life.

About Us:

CSF and EWU working together since 2001:

The College Success Foundation (CSF) provides academic and financial support to attend college for eligible low-income and/or foster care students. The CSF has been a part of Eastern Washington University since 2001. There are two CSF Programs at EWU; the College Success Navigator Program supports Achievers, Leadership 1000 and Governor Scholars. The Passport Navigator Program who supports Passport Scholars.

Once the program's scholars arrive on Eastern's campus, the CSF staff members strive to connect the students to a variety of resources that will enhance their academic success.  Additionally, the CSF Program intentionally creates social opportunities to incorporate participants into the campus community.

College Success Foundation Scholarship Programs

Achiever Scholars Program

Achievers Scholars receive the support and guidance to low-income students needs to successfully navigate their junior and senior years, including the college admissions/financial aid process and the transition from high school to college. College preparatory advisors (CPAs) are based in the schools. They provide proactive academic advising, college planning information, grade and attendance monitoring and referrals for additional interventions. They also help students identify scholarship opportunities and complete the FAFSA on time. CPAs work closely with guidance counselors and assist with transcript reviews and academic monitoring. High school seniors who decide to make EWU their new home are then supported through the CSF mentoring program located on campus along with the College Mentor Contact.

Leadership 1000 Scholars Program

The Leadership 1000 Scholarship program was designed to provide four-year college scholarships to low and moderate-income students. The Leadership 1000 Scholarship is a scholarship program funded by individuals, foundations, or businesses to provide college scholarships to deserving students who need assistance attending an eligible four-year college or university. The program is flexible so benefactors may establish specific criteria to guide the student selection. Most scholarships awards range from $2,500 to $5,000. Eligibility requirements include a minimum 2.75 high school GPA and recipients must meet certain income requirements.

Passport Scholarship Program

The Passport for Foster Youth Promise Program was created to help students from foster care prepare for, and succeed in college. This state-funded program was created by Washington State Legislator's in 2007 as a six-year pilot program. In the 2010-11 academic-year the statewide program served approximately 375 students with a maximum annual award of $3,000.  Since 2009, the College Success Foundation has been contracted by the Washington Student Achievement Council to provide personalized help and support services to Passport Scholars.

Through the Passport for Foster Youth Promise Program, students receive a scholarship to assist with the cost of attending EWU (tuition, fees, books, housing, transportation and some personal expenses). An essential aspect of this program is the specialized support services provided by the Passport Navigator, CSF staff members, and The Designated Support Staff at EWU.

Washington State Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth

The Washington State Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth is a scholarship program that helps young men and women from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree. Eligible students must meet specific criteria. The program has been supported by the current and former governors in Washington State. Proceeds from the Governors' Cup - an annual golf tournament - provide funding for approximately 40 - 50 new scholars each year. Scholarship award amounts range from $2,000 to $4,000 depending on the college of attendance. The scholarship can be accessed for up to five years to complete an undergraduate degree. Students must be enrolled full time and maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to renew the scholarship each year.

Mentoring Services through CSF for EWU Students

College Success Mentors, also known as Navigators, will provide guidance in the high-school-to-college transition.

  • Navigators will implement a structured year-long experience that effectively engages students in campus life, increases their knowledge and use of existing campus supports, and develops a peer support community for personal growth.
  • Navigators will fully integrate a career readiness strategy that provides greater connection to leadership skill development and early career exploration.

College Success Navigator Program

Launched in fall 2012, the College Success Navigator Program primarily serves first-year students (freshmen) who received pre-college mentoring through the College Success Foundation or a partner organization prior to college enrollment. Navigators are part-time employees and support the retention and graduation of CSF college scholars by engaging them in campus life and connecting them to useful campus and community supports.

Passport Navigator Program

Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Passport Navigator Program was created to specifically serve foster students receiving funding through the Passport to College Promise Program. The Passport to College Promise Program was created to help students from foster care prepare for and succeed in college.
