Mission and Organization

Our Mission and Organization

Records management at Eastern Washington University is performed in accordance with Washington State law.  Specifically, the program operates under RCW 40.14, Preservation and Destruction of Public Records and RCW 40.10, Protection of Essential Records.

The State of Washington formally defines a record in RCW 40.14.010 as:

any paper, correspondence, completed form, bound record book, photograph, film, sound recording, map drawing, machine-readable material, compact disc meeting current industry ISO specifications, or other document, regardless of physical form or characteristics, and including such copies thereof, that have been made by or received by any agency of the state of Washington in connection with the transaction of public business, and legislatative records as described in RCW 40.14.100.

The mission of Eastern Washington University Records Retention Management is to assist all departments with the disposition of any papers, correspondence, forms, bound volumn, films, magnetic record, drawings, or other documents (regardless of media) that have been created or received during the course of public business.  The Records Retention Manager works with State Records Management, The State Records Center and the University Archives.  The Records Retention Manager is assisted in the mission through collaborative relationships with the Records Custodians in each department or office.

Records Management at Eastern Washington University is a team effort!
